THE COLLAB

Celebrate a world of Black music, one collaboration at a time.

Featuring “The Project” by Damon Bennett

THE COLLAB is a multiplatform podcast series

celebrating a world of Black music, one collaboration at a time. In each installment, two virtuoso artists—from two distinct Black musical traditions and locales—meld their genres to create a new song.

Imagine zydeco plus freestyle hip hop, or even Afro-Colombian cumbia with an African American jazz pianist! Our series hosts lead a music-and-convo exploration of the episode’s featured genres and paired musicians, and the process of uniting them in a collaboration. The episode culminates with a performance of the new song, live in studio.

From brass bands to Cali funk, gospel quartets to ethio-jazz and lovers’ rock… From the U.S. East Coast to East Africa, to London’s East End… THE COLLAB celebrates diverse Afro-descendant musical traditions across different regions of the United States and across the planet, to paint a gloriously big picture of Black life and culture.
